Title: About Juju Salon and Organics
juju salon Team

Juliene Ebner

julie
The catalyst for Julie's commitment to health and an organic lifestyle was the birth of her first daughter, Lucie. It was then she chose to fully put into practice all she had learned in her studies of Eastern Religion at Temple University (having graduated magna cum laude) as well as her own private practices of yoga and vegetarianism. juju, which means magic or a holistic charm used for healing in West African culture, is also Julie's childhood nickname. The salon is merely an outward expression of the inner ideology Julie has come to embrace throughout the years.

She wanted to create a salon where the customer felt comfortable, cared for, as well as healthy and un-intimidated. Upon entering the space, the walls decorated in work by local artists, the furniture a beautiful mix of eclectic wood pieces, one cannot help but feel removed from their own nagging thoughts as they are offered a cup of tea or homemade biscotti, and on certain days a complimentary shiatsu treatment.

With Julie there is no demarcation between client and friend. Once you walk in the door you are a part of a family, one that is constantly changing, but whose center remains the same.

Julie, who is also a graduate of Jean Madeline Aveda Institute, a certified instructor, a former paralegal and a wife and a mother of two, feels she is doing her service to the community.

"I want to help others by doing business with cruelty-free, charitable manufacturers who are responsible to our communities and to our planet."

And, indeed she is.

Erin Boyd

Erin joined juju in January 2006 and has felt at home ever since. To have found this space and new friend Julie, exceeded her expectations. Erin's gentle demeanor, personal aesthetic, and confidence in her practice are complimentary to juju. As an artist, designer and stylist, she finds that working in this field is a perfect outlet for her creativity. After receiving her BS in textile design at Philadelphia University, it was apparent to her that she was still in search of something more. Assisting in a salon and later working on website shoots as a hair and makeup stylist for Urban Outfitters, she decided it was time to be true to herself and to her calling. It was at this point Erin attended Jean Madeline Aveda Institute.

"I am inspired each and every day I come into work."

She is proud to be a part of a business that cares as much about personal health as it does about beauty.
Miki Takeda Solot

juju is pleased to have an international stylist on board. Miki moved from Japan to the United States in 2003 and joined juju in July 2006. Miki's hair design skills are the result of precise and rigorous Japanese cosmetology training combined with an art and graphic design background. Her decision to be a professional stylist is fitting, as her mother owned a hair salon attached to her childhood home. Miki's family trips throughout Europe and Asia have only shaped her talent and creativity as a stylist.

In Japan, the trend in macrobiotic foods, green living, and natural and organic lifestyles is called "iyashi," simply meaning "relaxation." As a result, many Japanese salons and spas now offer products and services to support iyashi. Miki felt as if it was fate when she first met Julie and found this beautiful organic salon. She feels happy to sustain iyashi in America as well!
Mackenzie Hughes

Mackenzie is an exceptional colorist and formal stylist. Her dream of being a cosmetologist began at an early age when she was an assistant in a neighborhood salon. Mackenzie has been a stylist at some of the premier salons in Montgomery and Bucks county. In an ongoing effort to increase her technical knowledge she became a Regional Educator for Matrix. This experience included cross country travel to both observe and forecast the latest trends in hair. She joined juju in October 2006 again expanding her knowledge into the organic realm of coloring and styling. In September 2007, Mackenzie directed and designed the hair for Greenfest Phillyís first "Socially Responsible Fashion" show. Mackenzie, an accomplished sculpture and painter, is a positive and dynamic personality with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Camille D'Attilio

Camille is an extremely talented stylist and colorist. She brings what she calls a "structured, artistic flair" to juju. Camille joined juju while looking for a more familiar environment that fosters her friendly and artistic approach. Camille grew up in a family of stylists; she watched her father, uncle, grandfather, and brother perfect their skills in styling and cutting. She was inspired to learn everything about the hair industry which led her to adopt the philosophy that intelligent products and the right tools are the key to beauty. Camille is a graduate of the Jean Madeline Institute and was guided under the mentorship of the Fredric Fekai Team. Camille often travels with her family to international hair shows to educate and inspire other stylists as well as herself.
Sachiko Colombo

Sachiko was born and raised in Tokyo. For two years after high school Sachiko studied to be a make-up artist before beginning her training as a hair stylist. She was a hair stylist in Japan for seven years , working at the salon P-no in Daikanyama, and later in Shibuya at the salon Flower Children where she was also a manager. Sachiko took her inspiration from artists and musicians, traveling around Japan by motorcycle to attend punk & rock shows, and to look through museums. Her portfolio from this time reflects those influences.

In 2000, Sachiko moved to New York City to expand the range of her technique and to learn about non-Asian hair types and styles. She lived in New York for 4 years, attending hair and fashion events. After becoming a mother, Sachiko became more interested in organic processes and was happy to find juju in Philadelphia. "I am happy to work in a salon which allows me to perfect my technique and expand my knowledge."
